Can you guess what we performed this week? "I Love Rock and Roll"
Our 13th annual Lip-Off lip sync contest starts the week of February 13!!! Once again, we will be Lipping Off for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Scroll down to see past and present performances.
Students and staff lip sync a song ... students and staff then "money-vote" for different performers... the top half of the performances move onto to the next week of the competition. This has been a lot of fun! We have fun entertainment and raise money for an important cause all at the same time. Just think what we could do if everyone participates in our Lip-Off activity through either performances or money-votes or both... just think what UMS can do!
Year 1 = it all began when we did the "Lip-Off for Haiti" and sent money for earthquake relief through the Red Cross... we raised $1000.
Year 2 = we did the "Lip-Off for Cancer" and sent money to the American Cancer Society... we raised $2000.
Year 3 = we did the "Lip-Off for Cancer" and sent money to the American Cancer Society... we raised $1700.
Year 4 = we 'Lipped Off' for children with muscular dystrophy. We raised money to send children with muscular dystrophy to Camp Courageous. We had a fantastic guest speaker, Haley (11-years old), talk to our student body and staff about this fun week at Camp Courageous. We also learned that it costs approximately $800 to send one child - WOW! We finished our Lip-Off with just over $2000.
Year 5 = we continued to "Lip-Off for Cancer". We lost a beloved staff member in 2014 to cancer. Pam Miller was our school nurse for several years. She was a wonderful woman and loved by all.
Year 6 = we did the "Lip-Off for Cancer" and the"Boyz Gone Wild" (Gavin M. and Hunter K.) won again, they finished their middle school Lip-Off careers as 3-time Lip-Off Champions!! The boys took this fun event to a whole new level! **Check out the video created by "Boyz Gone Wild" ... you can click on either of these links to get the video. Please feel free to share the video with others. Thank you to "Boyz Gone Wild" for creating it! Click here ... click here. We were so excited that we raised over $5500!! UMS was recognized with the Tama County Relay For Life "Excellence in Youth Engagement" award!! Congratulations UMS and the Union Communities!
Year 7= once again,we were "Lipping-Off for Cancer". This year the "Relay for Life" Event was at the Dysart City Park here in Dysart. It started raining early on in the event (down-pouring). The live band began playing, "You Are My Sunshine" and everyone began singing along. Then a beautiful rainbow appeared across the sky and the "Relay for Life Survivor's March" began. We were thrilled that two of our groups performed at the event: Big Nick and The Politicians. It was a wonderful event. We raised approximately $3,252.90 just from the Lip-Off (not counting the Decade Dance). Year 8= once again, we are "Lipping-Off for Cancer"! Our total is, $2323.23!! Our Co-Champions were Big Nick and Surprise II!!!!
Year 9 = This year we were "Lipping-Off for Knox Blocks"!! You can read more about Knox Blocks right here. For every Owlet sock we were able to purchase, Owlet donated 2 MORE socks!!! WOW!!! We raised over $4500 - so exciting!!!

Year 12 = This year we are "Lipping-Off for Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org)"!! Can we beat last year's total?? YES!! We ended with $4,250.00 - WOW!! Way to go!!
Year 13 = The year we "Lipped-Off for Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org). We sent off $2,743.29 - great job!!
Year 14 = This year, we will once again be "Lipping-Off for the Tunnel to Towers" organization (t2t.org)! This organization was started after Stephen Siller, a New York firefighter, lost his live trying to save others in the World Trade Towers on 9/11. He was off duty and heading to meet up with his brothers to play golf. He heard the call, went back to his station to get his gear. He drove as far as the Battery Tunnel. He could not go any farther as things were blocked off. He grabbed his gear, and carried the 60 lbs. of gear from the Battery Tunnel to the Towers where he lost his life trying to save others. The Tunnel to Towers organization is a multi-faceted organization. They do so much good for our military and first responders. We are proud to be able to donate to some a noble organization. ***Please feel free to send in any donations/money-votes through our students, staff, or just come on in and make a donation yourself.
***If you are sending in a check, please make the check payable to: UCSD. On the memo line, please write: Lip-Off.
